Iranian man Amou Haji dubbed by media, “the world’s dirtiest man” died at the age of 94, just months after having his first bath in decades.
Haji had refused to use soap and water for more than half a century, fearing it would make him sick.
Haji, covered in dirt and living in a cinder-block shack, was reported by local media not to have bathed with water or soap in more than 60 years. It was reported that he might have experienced “emotional setbacks in his youth” that led him to refuse to wash.
Haji had for a long time avoided previous attempts by villagers to get him clean however, local media say, Amou Haji finally succumbed to pressure and bathed a few months ago. Iran’s local News Agency IRNA reported that he became ill shortly afterwards and died on Sunday.
